Plant Growth Under Different Light Conditions

Research Question

How do different lighting conditions affect the growth rate and development of bean seedlings over a three-week period? We hypothesized that plants receiving more light would show faster growth and healthier development.

Experimental Setup

We prepared identical growing conditions for bean seeds, with the only variable being light exposure. Each group received the same amount of water, soil type, and temperature control.

Day 7: First Growth

After one week, we observed the first signs of germination. The seeds in higher light conditions showed earlier and more vigorous sprouting compared to those in lower light environments.

Day 14: Established Growth

By the second week, significant differences became apparent between the light treatment groups. Plants with adequate light exposure developed stronger stems and larger, greener leaves.

Day 21: Final Results

After three weeks, the experiment clearly demonstrated the critical role of adequate lighting in plant development. The well-lit plants achieved significantly greater height and biomass.

Conclusions

Our experiment confirmed that light availability is a crucial factor in plant growth and development. Plants receiving adequate light showed superior growth in all measured parameters: height, leaf size, stem strength, and overall biomass. This demonstrates the fundamental importance of photosynthesis in plant development and supports our initial hypothesis about the relationship between light exposure and growth rate.
